Pesanti anelli vengono speso infilati anche a polsi e caviglie.
Inutile dire che la mobilità ne risulta fortemente limitata e che sono necessari molti accorgimenti per evitare l’insorgere di problemi di circolazione (es. massaggi) e per contrastare la sudorazione, che può causare infezioni e tumefazioni alla pelle (es. nelle giornate di sole bisogna arrotolare un asciugamano al collare per evitare che i raggi arroventino l’ottone).
E’ dibattuta l’origine di questa tradizione: se si asseconda il mito sarebbe stata introdotta per proteggere le donne dagli attacchi delle feroci tigri del posto, ma c’è chi sostiene che questa pratica fosse una punizione per le donne adultere e chi dice che rappresentasse un modo per ostentare la propria ricchezza ed ottenere in tal modo rispetto.
Le donne di etnia Padaung vivono soprattutto nella zona di confine tra l’ex Birmania e la Thailandia.
Qui si è venuta a creare una delle tante situazioni vergognose, irrispettose della dignità della donna, that the world is still full.

Obviously this practice for the local population is often one of the few sources of income and to put the neck of her child is to have these heavy rings "easy money", it follows that the practice in recent years has taken on new vigor and increasingly large diffusion. I wonder how they would feel
