"History.
The birth of the school is reported in the text as a mixture of legend and historical events, facts and mythology. The founder, Iizasa Choisai Jena (1387-1488), was the son of a warrior belonging to the country gentry who lived in the village of Iizasa (today Tako-machi) in Chiba prefecture. While still a young hyena already distinguished himself in studies of the sword and martial lancia. Durante il periodo in cui Ienao visse un’esistenza withdrawn, it happened that one of his devoted disciples who went to wash a horse to a source close to the temple of Katori. Shortly after the horse began to suffer from severe pain and very little later, he died. Jena wondered what had happened and give effect to these extraordinary divine power futsu-Nushi no Mikoto who, he said, had caused the death of the horse. At the age of sixty then, Jena decided to dedicate himself to a daily worship at the temple of Katori for a period of a thousand days. During this period, and after they had an austere ceremony of purification, undertake a strict regime of martial training. While in this state of spiritual discipline, so tell us, had a vision of Hyena futsu-Nushi no Mikoto. This powerful deity, with the appearance of a young boy, after he appeared to Jena who was sitting on a branch of an old plum tree near the place where he used to train. The vision offered in a volume of Hyena Heiho Shinsho, a martial strategy book written by divine hands. The vision of the well predicted, "You'll become the greatest teacher of all men of the sword under the sun." After this experience Hyena founded his own martial tradition and the formal name of this premise the term "Tenshin Shoden," which recalls the divine transmission received from futsu-Nushi no Mikoto. An enormous number of manuscripts Strategy martial are still kept by the head of the family Iizasa a reminder of the great spiritual and practical experience acquired by Hyena in martial arts. The master died Iizasa Choisai Hyena, surprisingly, the venerable, and unusual, one hundred and two years of age. His posthumous Buddhist name is Taiganin den-Taira-no-Ason-Iga-no-Kami-Raiodo-Hon-Dai-Koji, one of his wife is Kagakuin-den-Myoshitsu-Seikyo-Taishi.

School:
The curriculum is focused on teaching the use of the Japanese sword, which considers the main weapon. The further learning of traditional weapons, completes the studio.Attraverso other weapons you will learn to change: its distance and time of attack and difesa.Il program foresees a gradual use of more weapons, which are:

· katana, longsword
° BØ, long stick (180 cm)
· Naginata, halberd (blade sword on a long stick)
· Kodachi, short sword
· Ryota, two swords (katana and wakizashi)
· Yari, launches
· Shuriken, small throwing weapons.

The training includes a series of coded movements (kata) between attack and defense expert who uses a wooden sword (bokken or bokuto) and student who, in turn, use all the weapons in the program of the school. The kata are developed on a range of levels different, in order to gain time in the pupil fluency, speed, serenity and peace of mind of opinion during the action, thus creating a physical and mental state of permanent readiness.
The clothing consists of a planned training jacket (keikogi from judo, aikido and kendo), and a blue or black hakama. For beginners in the early days, it is preferable to use judo pants type for the correct setting of movements (taisabaki).
is advised to approach the Katori Shinto Ryu aged over twenty years, although it is still a practice accessible to everyone. "

I practiced this discipline for a short More than a year, but has remained in my heart. Unfortunately I had to stop in time as it is not compatible with my other sports commitments, but hopefully sooner or later be able to return to practicing in the gym with my old comrades (among other things, all very kind and helpful, although I was quite denied !).
I've never been a passionate martial arts, but Japanese culture has always fascinated me with its old traditions, ways of thinking, behaving, live on their own in the eyes of many Westerners. The figure of the samurai then, beyond the historical veracity of the facts, has always exerted a certain influence in my imagination. So I accepted gladly the invitation of my friend Giulio, who suggested I try the sport in which, he said, they teach you how to use the katana (Japanese sword) and I had never heard of. Reading then many manga set in feudal Japan, I did not hesitate a moment to register.
I find art very sophisticated, detailed, which tends to perfection. There are bloody battles, but you perform kata, sequences of movements in which we already know and what will move to make the move by his partner-opponent. We must pay special attention to everything you do and everything that happens around us.
Durante il primo anno ho imparato sopratutto ad usare la spada giapponese, poi negli ultimi months I have also started to handle the long stick and, briefly, the naginata. There are obviously different levels of learning for each weapon, you go into a kind of "spiral learning". I also participated in a couple of rallies in Texas (one in a spectacular location, a strip of land in the middle of Lake Iseo) with many practitioners from all over Italy and the greatest living master, Goro Hatakeyama, born in 1928.
If ever you should happen, I recommend everyone to try it!
